Mobile Elevated Work Platform

Program Description

 

Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs) provide a safe and efficient alternative to performing work at height. This comprehensive training program is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely operate this equipment.

 

The program will cover essential theoretical and practical aspects of MEWP operation, emphasizing key competency aspects, hazards, and safety protocols.

 

Learning Outcomes 

 

By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify what it means to be a competent operator and how to maintain competency

  • Explain the different types of MEWPs and their components

  • Perform pre-operational inspections 

  • Recognize common MEWP hazards and safe operating practices

  • Inspect and use the correct fall protection for the type of MEWP

  • Recognize hazards associated with fuel sources and how to prevent them 

 

Practical Evaluation

Following the program, operators shall receive a practical skills evaluation 

 

* Note – Practical skills evaluations will be completed provided there is a sufficient amount of time remaining following theory training. Practical skills evaluations are affected by the skill level of participants and different classes of lift trucks operators require evaluation on. Each evaluation may take up to 30 minutes per class of lift truck.

 

For new operators, practical skills evaluations must be completed within 90 days of theory training.

Operators and occupants of any type of MEWP, supervisor, joint health and safety committee members
