Service Description
MSW’s Spill Response program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively respond to hazardous material spills. The program emphasizes a proactive approach to spill prevention, as well as a comprehensive understanding of response strategies to mitigate the impact of spills on both human health and the environment. Participants will engage in a combination of theoretical discussions, hands-on exercises, and case studies to ensure a well-rounded learning experience. This course is suitable for individuals working in industries where the handling and transport of hazardous materials are commonplace, including but not limited to manufacturing, transportation, and chemical processing. Learning Outcomes By the end of the program, participants will be able to: - Discuss the importance of response planning - Identify potential risks associated with the mishandling of hazardous materials - Identify areas that contribute to spills - Determine appropriate response levels - Effectively respond to a spill - Identify spill prevention methods - Identify the potential environmental impacts of spills and the importance of timely reporting - Ensure compliance with reporting and documentation requirements following a spill incident - Practice hands-on techniques for containing, controlling, and cleaning up spills safely Target Audience Health and safety professionals, managers, supervisors, joint health and safety committee members Legislative/Standard References - Environmental Protective Act Part X - Fire Prevention and Protection Act - Transportation of Dangerous Goods - CSA Z731 Emergency Planning for Industry
