Small Power Tool Awareness

Program Description

This course equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to operate safely, maintain, and store small power tools commonly used in construction, maintenance, and industrial settings. Topics include tool selection, inspection, safe handling techniques, and hazard recognition. Emphasis is placed on preventing injuries through proper personal protective equipment (PPE) use, safe work practices, and adherence to manufacturer guidelines and regulatory requirements. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on demonstrations, participants will gain the competence and confidence to work safely and efficiently with small power tools.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify various types of small power tools and their specific applications.

  • Inspect power tools for defects or damage before use, following manufacturer recommendations.

  • Select and use the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) for each type of tool.

  • Demonstrate safe operating techniques for drills, saws, grinders, sanders, and other common tools.

  • Recognize and control hazards such as kickback, electrical shock, and flying debris.

  • Follow proper maintenance, cleaning, and storage procedures to extend tool life and ensure safety.

  • Apply applicable workplace policies, standards, and regulatory requirements when using power tools.
