Work Area Protection
Program Description
MSW’s Work Area Protection program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for ensuring a safe and secure work environment in accordance with the guidelines outlined in Book 7 of the Ontario Traffic Manual.
This course delves into the principles and practices of work area protection, emphasizing the importance of proper signage, barricading, and communication to mitigate risks associated with construction and maintenance activities on roadways. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements, hazard recognition, and effective strategies for maintaining a secure work area.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

Familiarize themselves with the key regulations and guidelines outlined in Book 7

Identify factors that may impact the safety of workers and the public

Gain practical skills in the proper use and placement of signage, pylons, and barricades to establish clear boundaries and communicate potential dangers effectively

Learn the importance of clear and effective communication within the work area. This includes understanding the role of flaggers, using hand signals, and employing communication devices to ensure that all team members are aware of potential hazards and safety protocols

Develop and implement traffic protection plans specific to work zones
